Four Branches

'A river flows out of Eden to water the garden and from there divides into four rivers. The first is named Pishon; it flows through Havilah where there is gold. The gold of this land is good. The land is also known for a sweet-scented resin and the onyx stone. The second river is named Gihon; it flows through the land of Cush. The third river is named Hiddekel and flows east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.' Genesis 2:10-14 (MSG)

A river flows out of Eden. It's purpose is to water the garden. The garden place where God put Adam and Eve and where He intended for them to live was Paradise. Some think this river is the Nile. Imagine that we could put our toes in it and find proximity to that river described in Genesis even today. The first wrapped around the entire garden and divided itself into the rest. Four branches. Those rivers represent the perfection and symmetry of the Designer. God provided the source of water to nourish the garden. It is such an important element. He never forgot anything of value and even included gold and fragrance. He never leaves anything out. And more. It was a beautiful place.

The actual meaning of the names of the rivers speak to me this morning as I pray for my friend who readies herself for a long trip. Pishon means to scatter, press on, break loose, spring forward. Gihon means bursting forth or gushing. Hiddekel means the rapid Tigris. Euphrates means to make fruitful.

Dear Father. I thank You for the rivers that You have created in Paradise and everywhere else. How the symbolism of it all speaks to me even now. You inspire me to pray for my friends and my community. I pray for understanding of Your Word and to be able to apply it to my own life. I pray to be able to always find the beauty in Your creation. Thank You for cleansing and nourishing me with the fresh water and anointing of Your Word. I pray that this day I find more of You in it. To those that You mean to scatter, scatter. To those that You mean to break loose, break loose. To those that You mean to press on, press on. To those that You mean to spring forth, spring forth.  Thank You that Your design is perfect, You always provide a better way. Help us to see it and not to rail against it. Waters flow. Waters flow over this land. Waters bursting forth and gushing to bring us new life. We pray the Word! Restore what the enemy has meant for harm and make our land fruitful again. We call forth Your blessings and increase. Elect us. Redeem us. Regenerate us. Sanctify us.  In Jesus name. Amen
