Rise and Come to the Light
'Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you.
And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.' Isaiah 60:1-3 (ESV)
'And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”
And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”Luke 4:16-21 (ESV)
He came by the Word of His Gospel to bring light to those living in darkness. He came by the power of His Grace to restore sight to those that were blind. He came to set the captive free and to proclaim that this is the acceptable year of the Lord.
Why would he do such a thing as love the unlovely? Why would he care so much for the careless? Why would he shine his light on the darkness? Why would he speak such words of grace to those totally graceless among us? Why would God leave his home in heaven to become less? Why indeed.
Jesus loved them all then and He lives to love us all now. He sees the needs of humanity. He responds to their needs. He responds to everyone, the saints and sinners alike. In the current situation in which we find ourselves, it is only through Him that deliverance and prosperity could possibly return. We recognize that His plans of redemption are complete. In all of His Glory, He does everything He can to save us all. To those who believe, He spells it all out so clearly. To those that have faith, His gospel is one of peace and truth and He has the strength and the power to bring peace and truth to us again.
As we unroll the scroll and read it, we know that many will reject His words and the cross. The proud will refuse to bend the knee to His sovereignty. We also know this, He is risen! He came out of the tomb glorified! He overcame death. There were many witnesses. Arise and come to the Light! Let the witnesses testify that He is the light of the world and that we ought to praise Him. We.honor Him this day for who He is and what He has done and we obey Him. 'Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.' May God's righteousness through Christ our Lord arise in His people as His Glory is revealed to us and His ways are made known to everyone everywhere!
