Jesus, My Thirst Quencher!

'Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.” John 4: 13-15 (ESV)

He met her there at the well. The Saint and the sinner. The well was His tabernacle of faith that day. He was the One that she was looking for and she didn't even know it until He spoke. During that conversation He pointed to her humanity. They discussed many things, the way things were then. and even the way they are now. Life happenings all around her and to her it seemed as if no one cared. Like the great ocean, with the ebbing and the flowing so goes her desires. He was different.

In the natural, her desires were always turning into her failures. Her appetite, the longing, the needs she had were only to be partially satisfied but for such a short time. Her hopes were always only temporarily filled. Filled for the moment but then the desire for more was there almost immediately. Her trips to the well becoming her place of hope. This is the way of the flesh and yet, He spoke to her of something more. Something that would always satisfy her. Something that would be a for certain constant in her life. Something that she needed desperately and that only He could supply. He was a prophet.

Jesus could supply her most important need and desire in life. Only He can do that. He is the one that satisfies the soul. The soul that can never be at rest until it finds rest in Him. To the one that receives His gift, they will be changed. His gift is more than a drink. He offers eternal life! The gift that is likened to a spring of water, constantly satisfying us and welling up and filling us with pleasure. His water is in abundance that lasts forever. Our dreams and desires become eager and quenchless with God meeting us wherever we are, fulfilling our every need and craving and satisfying us. His Love is just like the stream flowing into the river which in turn meets the ocean. I love that metaphor! His Love is like the ocean and is big enough for us all. The well He provides will never run dry.

'Sir, give me this water!' Jesus is always seeking the one that is looking for Him. That is the reason He came to us. To convict. To cleanse. To Heal. To feed. To refresh. These are all the things He came to us to supply! The Living Water. My thirst? Quenched!
