Drum the Easter Message Home

The law was clear enough. She was caught in the very act of her sin. She was to be stoned. But first, a test, one that Jesus would not fail. Jesus, in all His Glory, did not condemn the law nor the sinner. He found another opportunity to serve and to bring His message home.

Another life lesson in grace. In life, our accusers should make sure that they are not guilty of the same crime. The Pharisees and the teachers were there that day to trap Him and as He knelt before them and wrote in the sand He meant to convince them and convert them. In this matter, Jesus performed the greater good which was the reason that He came to the world in the first place and that was to bring all sinners to repentance. Repent and be saved.

His intent is not to destroy us, but to save us. He aims to bring the accused - for in our hearts aren't we all 'a woman like that' - to repentance by showing them His mercy, and the prosecutors as well by showing them their sins. For the guilty, they are spared their due punishment. She deserved to die, yet He sent her away to live another day and told her to sin no more. Likewise, under the law, we all deserve to be punished for our sins, even yet He does not condemn us but rather in all of His Glory, sends us away and tells us to go and sin no more. He is the Giver of Life, giving and saving us completely, both life and soul. In this, His story brings the Easter message home to us. The Good News message to those that believe is this, Jesus Loves us. He is the Son of God. He is the God that saves us and He does it everyday by defeating death and the grave.

'The Pharisees and the teachers of the Law of Moses brought in a woman who had been caught in bed with a man who wasn’t her husband. They made her stand in the middle of the crowd. Then they said, “Teacher, this woman was caught sleeping with a man who isn’t her husband. The Law of Moses teaches that a woman like this should be stoned to death! What do you say?” John 8:3-5 (CEV)

Dear Father, as I sing my Alleluias to Your Holy name, Jesus, I am grateful for all that You are and all that You have done for me. I stand before you guilty, yet when I repent, Your mercy, it is always enough, You took the punishment for me that I deserved for my sins so that I might be saved. You took the pain for me so that I might be healed and forgiven. For Your grace, it is sufficient. Let this Easter be one with hearts full of forgiveness just as You have forgiven many. Let your message of the cross ring true in our hearts. Help me to bring Your message of Hope home. Your tomb is empty. You are alive, just as You have said. In Your mighty name. Amen.
