Harvesting Spiritual Food
'As the crowds emerged from the village, Jesus said to his disciples, “Why
would you say, ‘The harvest is another four months away’? Look at all
the people coming—now is harvest time! For their hearts are like vast
fields of ripened grain—ready for a spiritual harvest.'
John 4:35 (TPT)
For all of the excuses and reasons the Disciples gave why Jesus should not have talked to her that day, because He did, much good did come of it and her entire town of Sichem was saved. Jesus is our Mediator.
Thus is the work of the Lord. That same work that He would have us to do. He compares it to harvest work. Some may sow the seed and from just one seed that is planted, multiplication, much expectation, that many will be the harvest. We cannot know what the results of our conversations with others about Jesus might bring. Therefore, we remain diligent and tire not from that task of giving our testimony. Jesus is our most excellent role-model. From teaching just one women about Himself that day, she spread knowledge of the gospel to her entire town.
As the farmer knows, it takes both time and money to bring in a harvest. I love to watch the busyness of the farmers in their fields during this season that we are in right now. They are excited to go about their business and do their important work. They can speculate and anticipate the size of their crops as the beginning for some and the end of their harvest season for many is about to draw near. They are called to it by the spirit of the white grain and must enlist the help of others in their most excellent pursuits to bring in that ripened fruit. As good stewards, they also must keep track of both the incoming and the outgoing and document where all of their capital is spent in the process.
Don't you know where your money goes? We work hard for our money as we attempt to build wealth and grow a crop for harvest, we likewise are growing money for our retirement. The wealth in heaven is souls. A most excellent crop. A highly favored work. The wealth of this age is in winning souls. It's good to know the season that we are in. Now is the time to be reaping a harvest of souls. Now is the time to gather in the eternal fruit. With our own busy lives, heads down to the tasks of it, we are also encouraged by Jesus to look up. Some of us are called to work for the money that goes into the work of soul winning, while others are about the actual work of winning souls. He that sows and he that reaps both receive wages and that is our blessing. 'I have food to eat that you know not of.' The harvest of spiritual food. That is our calling. That is our confidence.
In the story of the women at the well, Jesus became both sower of the Word to her and He also reaped a harvest of souls all within that one blessed day. As He told her about Himself and she accepted Him, she promptly left Him and gave her testimony to her neighbors and friends and that's how it's done. As the word of the Good News is shared it multiplies and grows and increases. Jesus encouraged His Disciples to look up and see, as they watched the harvest fields of villagers that came before them. In this way, He encouraged them to put the sickle to the grain. The wealth in heaven is souls but not many want to pay the price. For this reason, few are chosen to sow the seeds but many will be called when it is time to reap the harvest.
I am called because God has put me here for His Purpose. That Purpose of His is to share the Word of God. 'And they overcome him by the Blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.' Likewise, I am blessed when I get to see His Word grow and increase. There is much spiritual food in that.
Dear Father. Thank you for Your Word. Thank you for Cathy, whom You called to invite me to church to hear the Gospel message. Bless her. Bless all whom respond to Your call. Thank you for Your Saving Grace. Save them all. Thank you for Your Laws of Sowing and Reaping. We give You the praise. We honor You this day with our lives. In Jesus's name. Amen.
