Multiply Thy Word and Thy Power

'On the appointed day Herod, dressed in his royal robes and seated on his throne, delivered a public address to them. The crowd shouted, “It’s the voice of a god and not of a man!”  Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him down because he did not give the glory to God. He was eaten by worms and died. But the word of God continued to grow and increase.' Acts 12:21-24 (EHV)

There he was. There was Herod the great, descendant of Esau, seated high above the others and on a throne of power no less. Look up to the man and yet, he was just a man. A jealous man of power. All robed up in royalty and wealth. The ruler of that day. King of the Jews. Sadly, even though he should have known better, he did not fear God. Even though he had the power to do good, he chose to go his own way.

Herod was evil. He abused his power. So puffed up with pride in himself he was, that he became an offense to God. He did so many terrible things during his time as ruler. So much innocent blood was shed. He was so jealous for power that he even sought the death of Jesus and His followers. After delivering a speech and taking the applause and glory that was due to God for himself an angel of the Lord struck him down with an illness and he died. So fast the rise. So fast the fall of the wicked!

For we know that our Lord is a very jealous God. Men and women that He puts into power are to worship Him and to rule according to His Will and with humility and with a heart of gratitude. For God alone gives us life and everything that goes with it that we need, and He even provides for us the very air that we breathe. He gives and He takes away. He appoints authority and establishes rulers of nations.

Power corrupts. For those that God puts into power and to those who abuse that power and become corrupt, beware. For God so loved the world and everything that is in it that He gave His only begotten Son. In this, we are to pray for our leaders and for justice. We are to pray that our leaders would honor God and that corrupt officials would repent or be removed from power by our Lord just as quickly.

Thankfully, our God reigns, and even during the heartbreaking times of such destructive abuse of power, such as in the days of Herod, the Word of God grows and it is multiplied! Amen!

Dear Father.

Forgive us Lord, for we have sinned against You. Thank you for providing us with a Mediator, who is perfect and ready to Save. Thank you for Christians, who are once again willing and able to serve and who are beginning to rise up into positions of authority and taking back areas of influence and power that our enemy, the deceiver, had stolen. Thank You for Your Word. Multiply Your Word and Your Power over all the earth. Save them all Lord.

Thank you for our President, who is a believer in You and who is not afraid to call out the evil and the wicked rulers of this World. We pray for repentance. Let the trumpet of freedom sound. May his time as ruler be a positive influence over the nations. We pray for him today. Anoint him with Your Holy Spirit. Give him strength to do Your Will. Keep him safely under Your Wing and in Your mighty Hand of protection.

 In Jesus's name.

 Amen.
