Life is First
“You must not murder.' Exodus 20:13 (NLT)
Shall I say then, that the reason the Church has lost its effectiveness in this culture is because we have lost our moral compass? No one listens to God anymore. No one fears God anymore. No one reads their Bibles anymore. The main reason the Church is not relevant in today's culture is because we no long read our Bibles and we lack understanding of what God is saying to us in His Word. Life is so very, very precious. Though often misinterpreted the Word is very clear and not up for debate in this area. 'You must not murder'.
God said in His Word, 'My people are destroyed because they don't know me.' Hosea 4:6 (NLT). It is true. We perish when we refuse to do the research. We perish when we become lazy and let others do our thinking for us. Thinking is hard work. When we refuse to think, we become vulnerable to every wind of doctrine and open to every spirit of fear.
The Ten Commandments were given to us as our guide. This one is placed in a prominent position. Top of the second tablet. First of the last five. Number 6. The last five deal with our duty to ourselves and to one another. A moral code. Our social contract. Our first duty to our neighbor is to respect his life.
The security of life ought to be the primary objective of government. If they fail this, then they fail in their most sacred duty to us. The sanctity of life ought to be of utmost importance. Our founders thought so and placed that security in our nations' birth certificate. The Declaration of Independence states it like this 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.' Life is first. Without it you have no need for the rest. God grants us life, and it is the enemy that would like nothing better than to snuff it out. Kill, steal and destroy is his mission.
Unalienable rights are those which God gave to man at the Creation, once and for all. Once given, they cannot be taken away or denied. They are not up for debate. They are not to be denied or diminished. We give them up at our peril. We surrender our rights because we lack knowledge of the truth and of our responsibility to uphold it. When we err on the side of truth and protect life it is always the right thing to do. No regrets to living a life of truth and living by the commands of our Creator. 'Thou shalt not!' I heard You then, I hear you now.
