God Doesn't Seem to Play Fair
'Afterwards, Jesus, his disciples and those close to him remained
behind to ask Jesus about his parables. He said to them, “The privilege
of intimately knowing the mystery of God’s kingdom realm has been
granted to you, but not to the others, where everything is revealed in
parables.
“For even when they see what I do, they will not understand, and when they, hear what I say, they will learn nothing, otherwise they would repent and be forgiven.” Mark 4:10-12 (TPT)
God doesn't always seem to play fair. There, I said it. Then, I might ask why not? Why would God grant privilege to His disciples but not to the others, which the Aramaic calls the 'backward' ones? When you consider the fact that those who followed Him were either devoted, devout and hungry, or just the opposite you begin to see why.
The backward ones were there merely to listen to the interesting stories and maybe, to perhaps be entertained by a miracle or two. You could consider and you might reason that the disciples were the insiders. They would be the hungry ones who had given up so much to follow Jesus. They were living it and seeing it unfold with their own eyes. They would be the ones seeking out the truth behind the stories. The sick, the weak and the hurting. Logically, then, the hungry ones would be the ones looking for the hidden meanings in the parables. They would be asking the questions to clarify and also be the ones digging up the treasures and finding the hidden understanding of the secrets in the garden of God's kingdom.
For the outsiders, they were in the presence of the Lord, watching what He was doing with eyes wide open, yet they missed it. For those, they were in the presence of the Lord, heard every word that He said, ears were open and yet they did not comprehend it. They could see and hear in the natural sense, yet they couldn't see what was really happening behind the veil that separated them from the spiritual realm.
Why the one could comprehend it and not the other? Grace is shown and a measure of faith is given to us all. Most of us are born with a pair of eyes and ears. The spiritual matters are hidden for our benefit, in that they are the most important things, the valuable things, the gifts of God, that we must discover for ourselves. Thankfully, God doesn't play fair. He rewards us with eternal life in His Kingdom come game of hide and seek. It is a privilege to know Him. He desires that all might come to Him and develop that intimate relationship. He loves us and died for us so that each should believe and none should perish. He forgives us. He seeks the one that He might save.
It snowed again yesterday. Wasn't that a God thing? It seemed a little early. A second snow with accumulation, right after another hard fought election battle. It was, for me, His way of covering us with yet another symbol of His great love. His way of showing us that old things are gone and that He is about to reveal a fresh new thing soon enough. For those who seek Him, they find Him everywhere. God revealing Himself to us even in the sun, rain, wind and snow. His Kingdom and His Glory, hidden and revealed.
