The Bride is Getting Ready
"Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But
the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and
for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.' Matthew 25:1-13 (ESV)
Note: A clear wake up call for us all. Sadly, will only half of His Church be ready when God tells His Son to go get His bride? Of the ten virgins that He calls His Bride, five are foolish and five are wise. The lesson here for us to learn is that He wants us to watch for Him and to be ready. For who knows the hour or the day? None, no not one. For all must die and then the judgment.
Yes, it's true, the bridegroom was delayed. Of course they all may grow drowsy with the infirmities of the flesh and fall asleep, even in the knowing that His return will be most unexpected. So, with this warning, the believer can take it to mean that the temptations of life will come to us all and though we remain pure, that we will all fall asleep from time to time, and that only half of us will be ready when the time comes for Him to take us home.
The five fools that have taken their eyes off of Jesus, will expect their wise neighbors to help them out, but that help just won't come. The truth is, that all should know this, that none shall be saved in the end by the grace and the good works of others. Only the wise five that kept their eyes on Jesus and that have lamps and kept oil so that their lights might stay lit for themselves will be invited to the marriage feast. For those that neglect their lamps, the door will be shut for eternity. Even though they beg to be let in, regretfully, they will hear Jesus say, depart from me, for "I do not know you".
Dear Father.
Forgive us when we grow weary. Forgive us when we turn from and neglect You. How can we not stay ready? You have done it all for us, but the most basic thing Lord. Jesus, You said at the Cross that it is finished, yet we must do our part. While we wait for You we must also watch for Your return and be prepared. We must be ready when our time comes. We must keep our lamps lit!
I thank You for Your Word and that we might study it to find Your hidden truths and that Your mysteries might be revealed to us. We should pray.
I pray for the Church! Holy Spirit, keep Her oil burning! Fill Her with Your Joy. Jesus, thank you for loving Her and for dying for Her. None be lost Lord. We love You. We believe in You. We honor You with our very lives.
In Jesus's name I pray.
Amen.
