God's Greatest Gift

'For a child is born to us,
a son is given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
And he will be called:
Wonderful Counselor Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.' Isaiah 9:7 (NLT)
'And Joseph named him Jesus.' Matthew 1:25 (NLT)

As you ponder the Reason for the Season consider this: the One and Only reason for Christmas is the Gift. Here it is, so plain and so true. that God loved the world so much He was willing to give us His Son. The Prince of Peace.

What will you be giving to the ones you love this busy joy-filled season? Every minute spent in the kitchen preparing the food for the holiday meals is a gift of your time and an act of love giving. Every holiday cookie that you bake and decorate is a gift of your talent with someone special in mind. Every minute you spend addressing the Christmas cards and mailing them out is an act of love giving to that someone special that you have named on your list. All the time you spend decorating your tree and your house for the holidays is a gift that you give to yourself, your family and your neighbors. All the time and money you spend traveling to be with family and friends and the Christmas parties you attend are gifts of your presence you give to the people that you admire and love. The Christmas programs, concerts and plays that you attend this month are all gifts of musical and performing talent given by someone with a pure heart to entertain and the willingness to give of their time and to share it with the ones they love. All the time and money spent shopping and finding that perfect something are gifts of yourself that you want to share with the ones you love and cherish and that you feel are important in your life.

Considering all the hustle and bustle, isn't the reason for the season really all about the gifts? We buy and sometimes make gifts during this time of year because we care and have a longing to express to the people that we love a small piece of our heart, just as God did back then, 2000 years ago. He longed to share a piece of His heart and gave to us all -the greatest gift of all. 'A son is given to us'! Just imagine it. As much love that I feel for others, I could never love them enough to give away my own son, but God did that for me. He gave you and me the only thing that He knew we could never live without. His love, His presence, unconditionally. All we must do is receive it. Accept it. Accept Him. Accept the gift from our Father that will bring heaven home. Heaven, came down and lives now in me. Heaven, infused joy into all of my circumstances and promises me a place in my heavenly home when my time here is done. God's greatest gift to us is God Himself.

Thank you this day God, for the gift of a Child. He is not a child anymore. I call Him, Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Awaken my heart to the true meaning of Christmas.
