Divine Power and Prosperity Duties- A Humble Success
'When you have eaten your fill, be sure to praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.
“But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful! Do not become proud at that time and forget the Lord your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt. Do not forget that he led you through the great and terrifying wilderness with its poisonous snakes and scorpions, where it was so hot and dry. He gave you water from the rock! He fed you with manna in the wilderness, a food unknown to your ancestors. He did this to humble you and test you for your own good. He did all this so you would never say to yourself, ‘I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.’ Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath.
“But I assure you of this: If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods, worshiping and bowing down to them, you will certainly be destroyed. Just as the Lord has destroyed other nations in your path, you also will be destroyed if you refuse to obey the Lord your God.' Deuteronomy 8:10-20 (NLT)
Moses reminds me this day of my duties to God while living in my prosperous condition of abundant blessings. I should never forget from whom the blessings flow and remember to give thanks in all things and to whom it is due. Be thankful and give thanks that He provides it all and beware! For in the state of fullness and prosperity I may find cause to forget and to disobey the Blessings Giver.
In finding that I have it all I may also find the temptation to pride, forgetfulness, carnal-mindedness and worry as part of the deal. When I forget my 'why' then I begin to abuse the power. Do not forget who I was and why, then, He called me out of slavery to be one of His very own. Do not forget what I was and become proud, then, but remember how God rescued me from out of the pit. Do not forget where I was and how, then, He led me through the deep waters and out of the valley of my discontent and how He meets my every need even now.
My God rescued me and with His Holy Spirit has brought me through my trials and tribulations to humble me. He put me through the test to make me stronger and to grow my faith in Him. Do not say, then, that 'I have achieved all of this for myself and all on my own!' With that one evil saying I have denied the Lord God as the source of my power to be successful. All the success I see is because of that divine power of prosperity He gave me for a purpose. That all encompassing power was given to me to fulfill the covenant He made to my ancestors with an oath, not so that I could become all puffed up in my own mind and with my own feelings of importance and self worth. I am to fear the Lord and to lift Him up as I deny self. I am to yield to Him and not to an inflated ego or idols.
God is a jealous God and will not share me with other gods. If I turn my back on my heavenly Father to worship and bow down to idols then I will bring on my own destruction. Trust God and obey Him. It is simply the only way to find fullness of joy and complete happiness. God's giving and my getting is by design and part of His perfect plan and promises. Stay humble in His sight. Stay in His perfect will. Remember my precious Savior. Remain thankful in all things and at all times and through all seasons praise His Holy name.
