The Silver Standard
'Help, O Lord, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have
vanished from the earth! Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with
flattering lips and deceitful hearts.
May the Lord cut off their flattering lips and silence their boastful tongues. They say, “We will lie to our hearts’ content. Our lips are our own—who can stop us?”
The Lord replies, “I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for me to do."
The Lord’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over. Therefore, Lord, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation, even though the wicked strut about, and evil is praised throughout the land.' Psalm 12 (NLT)
What makes the times bad? The worst of times is when violence is done to the helpless and when there is much poverty. What shall we do in such a time as this? Call upon the name of the Lord and pray. Pray and seek His face and He will listen and He will even rise up to the groans of His people and He will rescue them, just as they have longed for Him to do.
Even in other times we have seen the liars speak through flattering lips out of deceitfulness and envy. Our prayers to You then Lord was for protection from wicked men with boastful tongues, even from our own government. Even then You were there.
The world is a mess but God is with us. Your Word is precious to us and has been proven from generation to generation to be powerful and true. Your Word is the silver standard for purity. Nothing should ever be added to it. Nothing more is ever needed.
Your Word is all we need. Even in the darkest of times our Lord is there and He calls us through His Word to be children of light. He challenges us to speak truth when all around us are lies. He calls us to be courageous even in the face of fear.
All of God's people are put into the hands of Christ, the Savior, and there they are kept safe. None shall pluck them out! Until the Lord comes again, there will always be proud and wicked men, but, we know that Christ will protect us from them all. He is the Rock that the Church is built upon and He keeps us safe.
