The Godly Role of Mothers and Grandmothers
'I’m filled with joy as I think of your strong faith that was passed down through your family line.
It began with your grandmother Lois, who passed it on to your dear
mother, Eunice. And it’s clear that you too are following in the
footsteps of their godly example.' 2 Timothy 1:4-5 (TPT)
Memories
can be such blessings. How do you want to be remembered? We can be
blessed by remembering those in the faith that have given us so much. We
can remember those that are thankfully still with us and some that have
even gone on before us. Take this example of Timothy. His success in
the ministry was pointed out as a direct reflection on the strong faith
of his mother and grandmother. Look at the influence that both women had
on their son and grandson. It's a Godly role. Look at the potential.
Look at the amazing life that Timothy lived. These two may have been
like our own mothers and grandmothers are or may have been perhaps. Full
of love. Giving of their time. Caring and supportive. Full of godly
wisdom.
Some
of us may have had the good fortune to be placed in a family line of
believers. Our strong faith may have been passed down through our
family. Those in the faith that taught us the things of God may have
been our mothers or grandmothers, and they may have even planted the
seeds of faith in us and left us with so many good memories and nuggets
of wisdom. Those who have been strong in the faith may have showed us
how to live and given us much to be thankful for that even now, just the
thought of it, fills us with joy. We should be thankful for them! What a
cloud of witnesses. We should be grateful for their influences on us,
and for giving us life and a good start in it by setting godly examples
and by living their lives with Christ as their Lord. We should pray a
prayer of thanksgiving. We should pray that we would follow in their
footsteps and choose to follow their godly examples.
This
may not have been your lot. Don't take Lot with you. Consider Christ.
Christ wants to be your friend. He wants to be more than a friend. He is
always near. He loves you. In this way, God is a mother to the
motherless.
Dear
Father. Thank you for Godly mothers and grandmothers. Help me to be the
type of women that You want me to be and to take my role in my family
seriously. Thank you for Your Word. Thank you for faith warriors like
Lois and Eunice. Thank you for my own mother and grandmothers and for
their strong influences on me.
This fifty-first day before the election, we pray for families Lord. Please strengthen us. Bring back the fathers. Destroy the plots of the enemy that are hell-bent towards tearing down the family unit. Tear them down instead. Limb from limb. We need and we love our family. Our family tree is our history. Put our fathers and mothers and their children in their proper roles. We pray for grandparents. Make them as stable as oak trees and give them Godly roles. Help them to fulfill their purpose. We celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. We cherish their Godly influences.
Restore our respect for life. Restore sanctity of life. End abortion. The enemy always makes it about the children and who will control their destiny. Make it be You Lord! Restore respect for the elderly. Help us to return to Your most Holy design of the family and marriage. Grant us Your Grace to overcome. We need You Lord to change us in this hour. Open our eyes to see how important we are to one another.
In Jesus's name.
Amen.
