'Then Moses said to Aaron, “Take your censer and put incense in it, along with burning coals from the altar, and hurry to the assembly to make atonement for them. Wrath has come out from the Lord; the plague has started.” So Aaron did as Moses said, and ran into the midst of the assembly. The plague had already started among the people, but Aaron offered the incense and made atonement for them. He stood between the living and the dead, and the plague stopped. But 14,700 people died from the plague, in addition to those who had died because of Korah. Then Aaron returned to Moses at the entrance to the tent of meeting, for the plague had stopped.' Numbers 16:46-50 (NIV)
Dear Father.
Thank you for Your Word. Thank you for the story of Moses and Aaron and for using Aaron as a form of Christ to intercede for Your people. You are most Gracious. Thank you that Aaron stood up against Korah and the uprising against Moses which is what brought on the plague and swift death of so many in the first place. Because of his fast action the tide began to turn immediately and the plague was stopped. And I never want to forget to thank you for Your Son Jesus Christ and for His ministry of Love which I didn't deserve and often take for granted. Through Him I can see Your mercy more clearly. Through Him I can always see the tide beginning to turn.
There is Jesus. There is our Hope. He always seems to be walking on the water during our storms to get our attention.
Whenever we fail You, You send Your Priests just as You did Aaron right into the midst of the assembly to intercede for us. They go running toward the fire with burning coal prayers and incense offerings of atonement to pacify your offenses. Thank You for those Holy men of courage. We don't deserve them and even so, just like them then, you sent Your very own Son, Christ into the fray as our perfect mediator now. He lived His life doing good for evil in a world infected by sin and only through Him and by way of the cross and His intercession can it be stopped and removed.
Through Christ, so many of Your good Servants and Priests enter the camp of the infirmed and the dying daily, to stop the effects of sin, often putting their own lives in danger. We pray for their protection. Through Christ, so many of Your good Servants and Priests stand between the dead and the living. claiming the precious blood of Jesus over them as a shield between the Eternal Judge and condemnation. Through the blood of Jesus, sins are washed away and removed, souls are saved, people are healed, lives are changed to reflect His Glory.
Just as You have in the past, we pray and plead the Blood, please hold back this current plaque Father, keep the numbers dead low, even below 14,700. Build up Your Army of believers to destroy the uprising that formed against You. Even though, we may be like the perverse generation in Aaron's time and murmur against You again and again for doing good, please forgive us. We repent to You now. Heal our land. We give You the Glory.
In Jesus's name.
Amen
