The Unforgettable
'Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.”' John 6:29 (NLT)
To
some lost in their sins, Jesus just doesn't suit their tastes. His
gospel of peace is too much for them to take. He demands the
unthinkable. They may have followed Him for awhile but soon enough
became bitter and walked away. They doubted what He said, they denied
what He did, they did not believe for a second what their own eyes saw
and their ears heard and their hearts felt. So they turned and walked
away in unbelief. They missed the opportunity of a lifetime and the only
work that God wants from us. They refused to believe that Jesus was who
He said He was. The Savior of the world! The very Son of God! In their
unbelief they were forever undone.
The
half-baked. The unsaved. The unbeliever is doomed to fail. Because of
the sins of Adam, we know that the unbeliever is under the curse of the
Law and will die in their sins. Eternal hell awaits the unbeliever,
because he is unwilling to deny self and follow the Will of God. God is
Love. It is God's Will that none shall perish as His desire is for all
to come to repentance. So He sent His Son Jesus to redeem us and to die
for us. Yet, some still choose to perish.
So,
for the nonperishable, what the believer knows is that what they have
seen and heard and felt through the Good News of Jesus is just what they
were looking for. He is unforgettable. He is the end of the law for
righteousness to all who believe. He is just what they need. So they
surrender their own lives, hopes and dreams to the power and grace of
Christ. While in their belief they have everything. He loves them so
completely. His love for them is unconditional. He supplies all of their
needs. What God has done for the believer in Christ is that He has made
them perfect and given them the gift of eternal life. They will live
with Christ forever.
For
me, to know Christ is a show stopper. He demanded the unthinkable from
me. The new life He gave me is ten thousand times better than the old
one was. He is so unpredictable. A life with Him is not boring. He
supplies everything that I need. Christ
removes the fear and consequences of sin and death once my heart was
ready to receive and believe. The unpardonable becomes pardoned. The
unsaved becomes saved. The unfed becomes fed. The unhealthy become
healed. The unfulfilled find their purpose. All of this to God's Glory.
All of this through Jesus and because of the work that He did at the
Cross. For all that is good flows through Christ to me. I am strengthen
in His name. I am comforted in His name. He alone has saved me and for
that I am forever thankful. I am eternally grateful. Amen.
